Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Grand Champion
Announced at NTTC's Annual Conference & Exhibits

Arlington, VA., May 2, 2016 – NTTC hosted its 68th Annual Conference & Exhibits at the San Diego Marriott Marquis Marina from April 24-26th. Darryl Nowell, a professional driver for Eagle Transport for the past 14 years, was awarded the 3rd Annual NTTC Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Award. The award recognizes an exemplary tank truck driver who serves the industry with the most reliable and safe transportation of liquid and dry bulk commodities.  The day-to-day role of a professional tank truck driver is one of the most challenging and demanding in all of trucking and the NTTC Board of Directors established this award to recognize the best of the best through this recognition program.

Mr. Nowell, a 31-year trucking veteran, accepted the award graciously on stage in the company of seven other professional tank truck driver champion finalists.  The eight drivers were chosen based on accident-free miles, industry and company leadership, communication and public speaking skills, and overall industry knowledge. Mr. Nowell is a petroleum driver for Eagle Transport Corporation at their Richmond, VA terminal. Throughout Mr. Nowell's impressive career, he has accumulated 2.9 million accident-free miles, and has earned numerous safe driving awards. He also is a certified driver trainer, a driver mentor, and accident and incident review team member for Eagle. The NTTC Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year program is sponsored by Baldwin & Lyons, Inc. (B&L), a specialist in marketing and underwriting insurance for the transportation industry.

“The Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Award represents diligent commitment to safety that is embodied in the NTTC’s mission statement.  All eight champion driver finalists are safety experts and represent the very best of our industry,” said NTTC President Dan Furth. “I had the privilege to meet Darryl Nowell this year during our interview process in Arlington, VA and I know that he will be a tremendous safety representative for the NTTC and its membership.”

National Tank Truck Carriers, Inc. (NTTC) is a trade association composed of over 550 companies that specialize in bulk transportation services by cargo tank throughout North America.  The tank truck industry generates roughly 5.1% of all truck freight revenue, but that represents 25.6% of all truck freight in terms of tonnage due to the heavy nature of the liquid bulk products handled.
