NTTC Signs Letter of Support for TSA Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act

On July 11, NTTC co-signed a letter alongside 84 other organizations to Congress urging the passage of the Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act (H.R. 6751, 2. 4298).

The proposed legislation is a bipartisan effort to harmonize Security Threat Assessment programs, including the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME), commonly utilized by tank truck drivers. The harmonization of these programs are intended to save applicants time and money if multiple simultaneous credentials are needed for their employment.

The joint letter stated in part, “The TSA Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act is a long overdue solution for essential workers like truck drivers, pipeline operators, longshore workers, and warehouse managers, among many others, who must obtain these credentials as a condition of employment. The people who keep our supply chain running deserve a federal credentialing process that respects their time and money, and the TSA Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act directs the implementation of streamlined system that supports America’s workers.”

All members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation as well as the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security will be furnished copies of this coalition letter.

NTTC will continue to monitor the progress of the Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act, and will provide updates of its passage when available.
